Speed Rally 2002

The Motor Racing Association (MRA), with the assistance and collaboration of the Sri Lanka Army Sports Committee are conducting the second speed Rally once again on June 21 and 22, at Pelwatta and Savanagalle Sugar Plantation with the assistance of both plantations.

The rally will be run over a distance of 680 km consisting of 13 stages.

The Chairman of the Rally, Richard de Zoysa speaking at the Press Briefing at the Pro Cart Board room at Millennium Park said that the entries will close on April 20 and will be left open for the first 40 entries.

The Rally will be in 3 sectors and one being a tarred sector and the other two gravel.

Entry forms are available at the Pro Cart Racing Centre, Millennium Park, Darley Road, Colombo 10.

Top drivers of the calibre of Dinesh Deheragoda, Mansoor Hassen, Javid Wahab, Nishan Weerasinghe, Rizvy Farook will be having a stiff competition, from Dam Dissanayake, Nalin Perera, Romani de Silva and Rohan de Silva.

The first leg sector will be from 7.00 a.m. on April 21 to 1.00 a.m. on the 22nd consisting of 6 stages.

The 2nd and 3rd sectors will be from 11.00 a.m. on April 22 to 3.00.a.m. on April 23rd consisting of 7 stages.

The Rally has been piloted by the energetic team of Chairman Richard de Zoysa, Dinesh Jayawardene and Rohan Pieris, who is in charge of handling the timing and results.

"All positions and results will be available to the competitors within half an hour of the completion of each stage" said the Chairman richard de Zoysa.

The Course marshall for the 3 stages will be Dinesh Jayawardene (Chief), Zacky Ismail and Tony Tranchell.
