The Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition - MITT 2002 -was held in Moscow, Russia, for the ninth time this year.

Tour operators and travel agents from different parts of the world were present at the exhibition which is a leading event in the international tourism industry. Around 13 tour operators from Colombo took part in MITT-2002 and collectively promoted Sri Lanka as a tourist destination for the Russian market. Future tour programs were also established with CIS countries. About 5,000 Russian tourists visit Sri Lanka annually. The Ceylon Tourist Board has been commended by the participants for its action to increase this number by encouraging local tour operators to participate in this event.
