New IT magazine

IT World, said to be the only magazine dedicated to information technology and published by Infolink, will be launched in Colombo this week. The chief guest on the occasion will be Minister of Science and Technology Milinda Moragoda.

The magazine is the successor to Infolink PC World, the first IT magazine in the country. "We revamped the magazine to keep in line with the growth of information technology both in Sri Lanka and globally," said Editor in Chief Zarook Marikkar.

He said the magazine will cover a wide area of technology including personal computers, hardware, software, Internet, web, data communication and the latest developments in technology such as voice.

The year 1994 saw the birth of Infolink, the computer magazine published by Interlink Publications, which catered to the needs of the IT industry and the general public.

Mr Marikkar said: "The magazine was launched to fill the void as there were no IT magazines in Sri Lanka, and to cater to the average reader who could not afford expensive international IT magazines."

There was much demand for an IT magazine as IT was becoming popular in Sri Lanka. In September 1996 Infolink tied up with IDG - USA, the largest IT publisher in the States, which saw the rebirth of the magazine Infolink as Infolink PC World.
