Bank donation for tank renovation

Irrigation and Water Management Minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perera accepted a donation of Rs. one million from Hatton National Bank Chairman Chrisantha R. Cooray at a simple ceremony held at the Mahaweli Centre recently. This money was a donation from the HNB towards the renovation of water tanks in the Southern Province especially in the Hambantota district.

In his speech after accepting the donation the minister thanked the HNB and exerted other private sector organisations to take this as an example and donate funds towards this project. Mr. Cooray said that the money was part of the funds reserved by the bank for utilization for press advertisements on Vesak Day.

Under the patronage of the Chairman of the Nawaloka Group of Hospitals, Deshamanya H.K. Dharmadasa HNB was the first private sector bank to contribute towards this project.
