Loyala pulls through to win in hard-fought game

Ignatius Loyala pulled through to the pre "quarters" of men's singles beating Ramesh Abeywardene in a three setter (6-2, 1-6, 6-2) at the Sri Lanka Hardcourt Championship of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Greenpath yesterday.

The others who have already entered the pre "quarters" in this event were Dinuka Wijesuriya who beat Chavin Thalagala (6-2, 6-3), Nishan Gunasekera defeating Anuk Arulpragasam (6-3, 7-5), Iqbal Majeed overcoming Rukmal Cooray (6-3, 6-1) and Harikesh Kaneshayogam beating Kokulan Ravindrakumar (6-3, 6-3).

Dinushka Premananda entered the quarter-finals of the women's singles beating Narmada Ekanayake in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) while Ruchika Alahakoon too did the same but with a 'walk-over' from Dianna Alles.

Aruna Seneviratne and Chaya Beling have already got a bye into the semi-finals of the mixed doubles.

Matches are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. today weather permitting.
