SriLankan gears up for Jar-145 approval SriLankan Airlines Engineering and Maintenance Department is currently revising its procedures and work practices to conform to the stringent European regulatory standard 'Jar-145' to which the airline hopes to be approved in the near future. The airline's aircraft maintenance workforce had been carrying out heavy maintenance (C-checks) on its airplanes in-house for over 15 years. The re-fleeting of SriLankan with Airbus aircraft and the introduction of punctuality improvement measures have resulted in a marked improvement in on-time departures and technical reliability. SriLankan currently operates a fleet of three airbus A340s, four A330s and one A320. Obtaining JAR-15 approval would make SriLankan the first flag carrier in the SAARC region to be so approved to carry out heavy maintenance on Airbus aircraft. The airline also hopes to attract third party heavy maintenance work of other carriers. |
