Ceybank Rest -Anuradhapura

by BEVERLEY JANSZ

Front view of the guest house.

Ceybank Rest opened in June 1993 as a holiday resort exclusively for the Bank of Ceylon employees. It was the brainchild of the then Chairman of Bank of Ceylon, Nissanka Wijewardena. Realising its potential as a commercial venture, Bank of Ceylon, decided to run Ceybank Rest as an 'A' grade guest house for foreign tourists and Sri Lankans.

The operation of the guest house as a commercial venture began in 1994. From then onwards, Ceybank Rest has been a popular venue for tourists to discover Anuradhapura's historical treasures while enjoying modern facilities of a star class guest house.Ceybank Rest offers twenty guest rooms including ten double rooms, six family rooms and four deluxe rooms which are fully air conditioned. All rooms are provided with attached bathrooms.

The landscaping on which Ceybank Rest stands, has been done beautifully. It resembles a mini botanical garden, with blooming colourful flowers. Since U. B. S. K. Dissanayake, an experienced hotelier took up duties as the Manager of Ceylon Rest, the guest house has seen a tremendous transformation. Dissanayake who is a wood artist, works with dedication, taking care of the needs of each and every guest, be it a foreign tourist, expatriate or Sri Lankan.

The guest house has become popular for residential seminars due to the homely ambience in the hotel. It caters to large scale weddings and other functions. Delicious Eastern and Western cuisine, prepared by Executive Chef, D. M. Dassanayake, under the personnel guidance of Manager, Dissanayake, is being offered o guests. Hospitality is the key word for all employees, judging by the friendly and courteous service and homely atmosphere prevailing within the guest house.

The guest house has a lounge, dining room, a beautifully placed restaurant but what takes the cake is the aesthetic view created by a touch of nature itself - a foliage of rustled jungle branches that decorate the interior of the restaurant. This is a creation of Ceybank Rest manager, U. B. S. K. Dissanayake, who imbibes his knowledge as a wood artist into the hotel trade.

Ceybank Rest at Anuradhapura is owned by Bank of Ceylon and managed by CeyBank Holiday Homes (Pvt) Ltd whose Chairman is Sarath de Silva. He is also the General Manager of Bank of Ceylon. CeyBank Holiday House (Pvt) Ltd. General Manager is Vishwanath Vijayasinghe.
