CID to investigate misuse of state vehicles

by JAYAMPATHY JAYASINGHE

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the alleged misuse of state vehicles belonging to both government departments and state corporations by various Ministers and Members of Parliament (MP) of the People's Alliance during the last general elections, CID sources told the "Sunday Observer."

Around 40 vehicles belonging to various departments and corporations are said to have been brought to the Presidential Secretariat prior to the general elections and distributed among People's Alliance politicians for party propaganda work during the election campaign by officials of the Presidential Secretariat.

It is learnt that the CID officials are to question the Chief Minister for North Central Province, Bertie Premalal Dissanayake and other high officials of the Presidential Secretariat in connection with the misuse of state vehicles for party propaganda work.
