The new A4 for a smoother drive

by JAYAMPATHY JAYASINGHE

The car picked up speed rapidly when the driver stepped on the accelerator and the smooth transmission of gears both manual and automatic did not create jerks surprisingly as in many cars.

This is one of the innovations of the new Audi A4 which was launched in Sri Lanka last week.

Sunil Kaul, Audi's Country Manager for Sri Lanka told a news briefing in Colombo that Sri Lanka was selected as the first country in the Indian subcontinent to launch the Audi A4, the newest of the luxury cars made by Audi AG, Germany.

He said he was optimistic that the new Audi A4 with special features would capture the upper market segment in Sri Lanka.

He said around 500-600 units of Audi cars have been sold in Sri Lanka since 1972, which amounts to about 25 percent of the market share.

However, the new Audi A4 could not be launched in the island last year due to the depressed market, he said.

Asked whether luxury cars could be sold in Sri Lanka when there was an economic downturn in the country, Mr. Kaul replied that they were aiming at the Upper segment of the market.

Asked whether Audi cars sold in Europe differed to models sold in Asia, he said there were slight differences in terms of the design to suit the tropical conditions.

Audi Sales Manager, Rajieve Fernando said that the Audi A4 has won several awards in Europe. Its safety features include the Electronic Stability Program which helps the driver to remain in control of the vehicle in crisis situations.

Senok Automobiles, the Audi sales agents in Sri Lanka, has spent over Rs 12 million to upgrade its showroom.
