Sahan Wijeratne to play league cricket in England Former Cambrian cricket captain and 2001-2002 Lemonade Trophy 'Best all roudner', Shan Wijeratne left for England recently to represent Bossborough Cricket Club an invitation by the representative committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka. Sahan is one of the outstanding all-rounders produced by Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa in the recent past. During the Lemonade Trophy Schools' Premier Cricket Tournament 2001/2002 he excelled in all three departments and proved to be a talented schoolboy cricketer. He is the only schoolboy cricketer who scored over 1,000 runs, including 5 centuries last season (104 not out against Dharmasoka, 131 not out in the 1st innings and 100 not out in the 2nd innings against Sri Jayawardenepura MV 112 against Dahrmapala, 103 against St. Sebastian's). He delighted the Moratuwa cricket fans at the 32nd 'Battle of the Golds' Big match scoring 97 runs in the 1st innings and 103 in the 2nd innings and 116 runs at the 17th limited overs encounter. He got 51 wickets, the best being 7 wickets for 17 runs against St. Bendict's College, Colombo. Sahan led all four college teams under-13,15, 17 and 19. He represented under-17 All Island Schools' team and toured Pakistan in the Asia Trophy Tournament in 2000, captained the same team for the same trophy and toured Bangladesh in 2001 and Pakistan in 2002 with the under-19 Sri Lanka schools' Team in a one-day cricket tournament. He won College Cricket Colours in 1999, Milo Cricket Colours in 2000 and Piliyandala Zonal Cricket Colours in 2001. During the short stay in England, no doubt Sahan Wijeratne will definitely improve his talents and gain much more experience in the field of cricket for his future cricketing career. |
