Ten shuttlers for Asian junior tourney in Malaysia

Ten top junior shuttlers (five boys and five girls) will be selected shortly to represent the country at the Asian Junior (under-19) Championship of the Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC) to be staged in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July 13 to 21.

A spokesman for the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) told the Sunday Observer that trials are to be held soon, and the events to be worked off are Boys and Girls Singles, Boys and Girls Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

The SLBA's Golden Jubilee National Championship has been scheduled to be staged in October, but the venue has not yet been finalised. It may be staged at the SLBA Indoor Stadium, Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium or even at the University of Peradeniya gymnasium.

M. Y. C. Perera heads the new Selection Committee approved by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, while the four other members are Samanthi Hettiarachchi, Oliver Guruge, B. S. M. de Silva and Tony Perera.
