Step to develop insurance industry skills The need to develop technical and management skills in the insurance industry was stressed by Warwick Churche, Chairman of Eagle Insurance and Chief Financial Officer - Asia Pacific Zurich Financial Services when he donated a stock of books to the Sri Lanka Institute of Insurance recently. He commended the Institute for taking the initiative in providing facilities to obtain these skills for those who are keen in making insurance their career. Expressing satisfaction on what he had noticed during his brief visit to Sri Lanka, Mr. Churche said that he was encouraged by the way the industry was progressing. The books and CD-ROMS donated by Eagle Insurance are expected to help students upgrade their knowledge and obtain the necessary professional qualifications. President of the Institute, Upul Wijesinghe said the Institute is the educational body for the country's insurance industry and has been internationally accepted. Facilities are provided for students to obtain professional qualifications both at international and local levels. Eagle has set up two trusts to assist the Institute in its activities. 'Eagle Insurance Development Oration Trust' has been set up to finance the annual cost of a gold sovereign medal to the best orator. The oration is delivered every year by a selected insurance professional on a selected subject, which is backed by local context research and experience. The 'A. S. Mani Memorial Trust' has been set up to award the best actuarial student. The Trust has been named after the veteran actuary, A. S. Mani who was Consultant Actuary to Eagle from the company's inception until his death a few years back. |
