Gemonics seeks strategic tie-up Gemonics (Pvt) Ltd., a Sri Lankan company which is in the gem cutting and polishing business, is looking for strategic tie-ups with the local and global industry. The company intends to raise venture capital or equity participation to enhance the production facility, to increase turnover and profitability and to commercialise its operations at a competitive plain. The multi-spindle robotic gem cutting and polishing machine, developed and fabricated by Gemonics, is designed for precision cutting and polishing of gemstones of varying types and sizes. The design and technology have come from Cambridge Gemonics (Pvt) Ltd., a research and development company. To realise the full potential of this technology, Gemonics intends to enhance the existing machine set-up and invest in additional accessories and personnel to facilitate working two shifts. The machines at present are capable of faceting and polishing synthetic and natural gemstones to sizes of one millimetre and above for standard round brilliants, averaging 1,000 stones on a single shift working day. The robotic technology allows Gemonics to achieve precision and performance which is constrained by manual processing methods. |
