STF maintains presence in Batticaloa

Although Special Task Force units had recently withdrawn from all school buildings and kovils in the Batticaloa districts, in keeping with the ceasefire agreement, the STF was maintaining its presence in the area and had set up alternative strong points, STF officials told the Sunday Observer.

All school buildings and kovils occupied in Batticaloa district by the Special Task Force of the Sri Lanka Police were vacated by Thursday except the 13 Colony, Deputy Commandant STF, SSP Nimal Lewke told the Sunday Observer. The 13 Colony has been temporarily transferred to the Central camp in Ampara.

Temporary tents have been put up for the troops who were deployed in those buildings in the same areas, he said. (RK)
