ICC in multi-million sponsorship deal for umpires

LONDON, July 13 (Reuters) - International cricket's elite panel of eight umpires and five match referees is to be sponsored by the Dubai-based Emirates Airlines.

The three-year deal was described on Friday by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as a "multi-million dollar sponsorship agreement."

Umpires and referees will wear Emirates branded clothing during all test and one-day internationals, starting on Saturday with the final of the triangular series between England and India at Lord's..Emirates succeed National Grid, which from 1994-2000 supported the original move to independent match officials.

The eight ICC umpires are Steve Bucknor (West Indies), Asoka de Silva (Sri Lanka), Daryl Harper (Australia), Rudi Koertzen (South Africa), David Orchard (South Africa), David Shepherd (England), Russell Tiffin (Zimbabwe), Srinivas Venkataraghavan (India).

The ICC panel of referees is made up of Ranjan Madugalle (Sri Lanka), Clive Lloyd (West Indies), Mike Procter (South Africa), Wasim Raja (Pakistan) and Gundappa Viswanath (India).
