Cultures in Harmony

Different cultures will come together to present their traditional costumes and music at `Cultures in Harmony', an event that is organized by the spouses of the members of the Diplomatic Corps in Sri Lanka and the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The proceeds of the event will finance a Portable Ultra Sound Scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital, Colombo and equipment for ARK Home for Children with special needs, Chunnakam, Jaffna. The show will display an array of different attire which will be modeled by the members of the High Commissions and Embassies including Heads of Missions and their spouses. The Foreign Ministry Seva Vanitha members will present the national outfits including bridal wear designed with local Beeralu lace and material by designer Yolanda Aluwihare.

Australia, Japan, Malaysia, India, Norway, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Korea, Thailand, Ghana, Finland, China, France and the U.S are the countries that will be featured at the event. The members of the UN Organisations based in Sri Lanka and their spouses will also demonstrate the costumes from countries that will not be represented by Diplomatic Missions based in Colombo.

The event will be held at the Colombo Hilton on September 18 and is co-sponsored by Sri Lankan Airlines, Bellucci, Saffron Ware House, Colombo Jewellers and KFC.
