Police his all time
fav band

A mobile DJ who would have liked to be a musician DJ Howard holds a day job as Programmes Manager at TNL/Lite. A past student of St. Thomas' Kotte, he enjoys hiking through jungles, chilli hot, not pepper hot, Chinese, Sri Lankan and Indian food and thinks that DJ's should be loaded with skill and PR to be a success.

Name: DJ Howard (Howard Brohier)
Birthday: August 21
Status: Married
Fav Colour: Black and white

Trendy outfits: It would depend on the fashion at the moment. I would prefer to stay with formal wear.

DJing is a PR exercise. Dressing up depends on the occasion.

Hair do's: There was a time I grew my hair. But now I prefer a short style.

Fav music: It is difficult to select. I like music from Four Play to Led Zeppelin, from Fat Boy Slim to the 80's funk....it all depends on my mood.

Fav 80's or 90's hit: My all time favourite is the band Police. I enjoy their albums except Synchronicity.

No fav. 80's or 90's hit.

The worst hit song: Mr. Blobby by Mr. Blobby. Never knew how it became No. 1.

Fav rap star: Dr. Drere, his first album Chronic was good.

What spurred you to become a DJ: When I was young I went to a party with my sister and was disappointed with the music that was played. I thought I could do a better job. So at fourteen years I began to DJ at house parties. This was at the time that Cameo, Holly Johnson and Marrs were popular. I turned professional when I joined DJ Eugene in '91 and worked with him till '93. Then I moved over the MKOP and mixed grooves with DJs Bunty and Wendell. I joined TNL for a day job but went mobile again in '98 till 2001 at The Library, and then moved out to be mobile at private and corporate functions.

What's your comment on the vinyls/CD buzz: Playing with vinyl is a brilliant feeling but it is expensive. If you played with vinyls then mixing with CDs is easy. Technology has progressed and soon it will be computers, who knows!

Segueing of music: A lot of DJs in Sri Lanka segmentalise their music regardless of their audience. With an older audience you can rapport but with youth it all depends on the event. At some parties they tell you its house music and trance. At other parties they want R&B. Actually it depends on the audience.

Are you a partying guy: Yes I party quite a lot. After one of my DJ jobs I go out.

When you are not DJing: I watch a lot of movies and then go off to sleep.

Are you superstitious: No! It is for the small minded.

Are you vain: I guess most guys are vain to a certain extent.

Your pet hate: Girls with hairy legs.

Do you belong to the gym syndrome: No. I just play cricket every Sunday at the Parliament grounds and work myself out.

What mags do you choose to read: Mad books and magazines, Time and LMD.

Your fav cartoon character: Woody Woodpecker when I was young. Now I enjoy Garfield.

Which character would you like to play in a film: Vinnie Jones in 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'.

What makes you happy in life: Happiness is what you make of it. Anything that doesn't involve whining makes me happy.

How many rude thoughts do you have in a day: Depends on my moods. Everyone tells me I'm moody, but personally I don't think I'm a moody person!

Where would you like to be most now: In London. The sense of opportunity is great. It is challenging. What do you think life will be like in the year 3000: If there is going to be a World War III then there won't be a 3000.

What would you do if you ruled the world: Tell George Bush to take a chill pill!!
