Suwandethi Kusumak
Concert for Stanley today

A host of leading singers of the Sinhala music scene have graciously banded together to stage a fund raiser concert to help music director/saxophonist Stanley Peries seek medical attention in India. 'Suwandethi Kusumak' will be held today (September 15) at the BMICH at 6.30 pm. Popular singer Visharada Neela Wickremasinghe's 'The Mother' organisation is responsible for the production of the concert and Neela herself is confident that many a music lover will be present to support this worthy cause.

Stanley Peries who over the years has been a guiding light to all musicians and singers of the Sinhala music scene needs urgent medical treatment for cancer. A director who inspired many singers with his music arrangements and also with the backing by his band Fortunes, saxophonist Stanley is a multi-instrumentalist. He plays piano, violin, guitar, organ and tabla and the occasions at which he has appeared on stage are countless. So too the many recording sessions and releases.

At today's concert, artistes taking part include Latha Walpola, Sanath Nandasiri, Victor Ratnayake, Nanda Malini, Neela Wickremasinghe, Gunadasa Kapuge, Indrani Perera, Angeline Gunatilleke, Jagath Wickremasinghe, Niranjala Sarojini, Rookantha Gunatilleke, Edward Jayakody, Mariazelle, Athula and Samitha, the list is long. The SLBC orchestra will back all the singers and the concert will include dance items by the schools of Sunila Jayanetti, Chandana Wickremasinghe and Rajini Selvanayagam.
