Size of Ozone hole now bigger "The size of Ozone hole and depth have continued to increase gradually despite the fact that Ozone depletion substances are decreasing in the atmosphere," states Chandana Jayaratne, President, Section E1 of the Advancement of Science. Ozone depletion was established as a fact in 1985, when an 'Ozone hole' was reported from ground based measurements in the Antarctic. A panel discussion will be conducted by the Section E1 of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science, on the International Ozone Day to make the media personnel and the public aware. "It is more like an awareness programme about the present situation of the Ozone layer. And the action plan to prevent the depletion of the Ozone layer will also be discussed," Chandana Jayaratne says. The discussion will be held on September 16, 2002 from 4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science Auditorium, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7. "The event will be open to the general public". |
