Sri Lanka in September

by Pelham Juriansz

The month of September heralds a time of festivity, entertainment and fun. With the ICC Trophy (popularly known as the Mini World Cup), the second most important event in the cricketing calendar being hosted by Sri Lanka, it's not just a time for cricket lovers.

The other important events coinciding with the World Cup are the Cultural and Food Festival to be held on September 18 and 19 at the Vihara Maha Devi Park.

Music lovers will not be left out with a 'Street Party' that is to be staged on Sept. 21.

Several leading bands will be on stage with a carnival style parade of bands to be held opposite Town Hall. September 22 is the date for all Jazz fans when Jazz Odel is organised by Odel Unlimited from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The restaging of the cultural Navam Perahera will be held on Sept. 24 around the Beira Lake. The Perahera will begin about 7 p.m. and go on till midnight.
