St. Sylvester's beat Isipatana 17/7 to enter Cup semi-finals

St. Sylvester's College created a major upset when they scored a stunning 17 points (2 goals, 1 penalty) to 7 (1 goal) to win over Isipatana to enter cup semi-finals of the Schools Championship of the Singer Sri Lankan Rugby Sevens 2002 organised by the Kandy Sports Club and sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and the Sri LankanAirlines and co-sponsored by Le Kandyan Hotel at the Bogambara Stadium. At half time the Sylvestrians led 7-0. The Sylvestrians scored a try through A. I. Perera which was converted by himself and also put over the penalty and the other was a penalty try. Isipatana's scoring came through a penalty try.

The defending school Cup Champions St. Peter's College kept their chance alive by scoring a narrow 17 points (1 goal, 2 tries) to 14 (2 goals) to enter the Cup Semi-finals. For St. Peter's R. Fazal, Mahesh Fernando and Mohammed Rinas scored a try each. For Royal M. Badurdeen and Zulki Hameed scored a try each. In the other two Cup quarter-finals Vidyaratha beat Thurstan College 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try) after leading 14-0 at half time.

Kingswood College beat their traditional rivals Dhramaraja College by 19 points (2 goals, 1 try) to nil after leading 5 nil at the turnaround.
