St. John's market car park a 'fishy' mess

The customer car park at St. John's Market, Pettah - the biggest wholesale fish outlet in the country - is in a state of disrepair.

A 'park' full of potholes and puddles, customers are wary to park their vehicles, unattended with no proper security, let alone fear of damage to their vehicles. Security personnel are sometimes to be seen but loss of car accessories has been the order of the day.

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is in charge of the car park while the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) owns the market.

This sorry state of affairs has led customers to retain their own 'security guards' in their vehicles while they go 'fishing'. (Anandan)
