SLMC dissident MPs back in House tomorrow by P.Krishnaswamy The eight Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) dissident MPs would attend Parliament tomorrow, giving up their one-month long boycott, after their second meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday, one of the dissidents, M. B. M. Azeez, told the "Sunday Observer. They were expected to attend Parliament yesterday consequent to a very cordial meeting they had with the PM last Friday over the security and political concerns of the Muslims of the Northern and Eastern provinces. But they had to clarify certain vital points at the second meeting before they attend Parliament, the MP said. They were steadfast on their stand over a separate unit of devolution for the predominant Muslim areas, he further said. Meanwhile, SLMC leader and Minister, Rauff Hakeem, has postponed his scheduled visit to the East yesterday for a meeting with LTTE's military chief Karuna to discuss the security concerns of the Muslims. Minister Hakeem held informal discussions with Karuna in Thailand during the second session of the first round of peace talks at which the latter was present as a member of the LTTE delegation. SLMC sources said that the meeting will take place next week. |
