Gayle cracks 103 to give Windies 2-0 lead

NAGPUR, India, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Opener Chris Gayle cracked his second one-day century to propel West Indies to a seven-wicket victory over India in the second one-day international on Saturday for a 2-0 lead in the seven game series.

The 23-year-old Jamaican, who hit 103, led a relentless assault on the Indian bowling on a good batting pitch as the visitors reached 280 for three chasing India's healthy 279 for nine in a match reduced to 47 overs. The left-hander struck eight fours and three sixes as West Indies registered their second successive win in the seven-match series in a more emphatic fashion.

Gayle shared in a 134-run second wicket partnership with Marlon Samuels, who hit a polished 52 for his seventh one-day half-century.

He was dismissed with West Indies needing 59 more to win, but Ramnaresh Sarwan (39 not out) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (39 not out) guided them home with four balls to spare. Vangipurappu Laxman was out for 99 but helped India recover from 20 for two after being asked to bat first by West Indies skipper Carl Hooper.

Laxman raised 128 runs for the third wicket with skipper Saurav Ganguly, who contributed 78 and added another 105 runs for the fifth wicket with Rahul Dravid, whose run out for 51 led to a late collapse with five wickets tumbling for 16 runs. The match was reduced to a 47 overs a side because of a 30-minute delay in the start due to dew on the outfield and a brief hold up because of crowd disturbance.
