Sajith Priyadarshana wins u-15 and u-17 boys singles at Junior TT by LESLIE FERNANDO The 14-year-old G. P. H. Sajith Priyadarshana of Devananda College Ambalangoda gave a pleasing display in winning the boys under-15 and under-17 single titles at the Junior and Senior Table Tennis Championships held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium yesterday. Sajith defeated team mate Chameera Chathuranga in the boy sunder-15 final in straight sets 11-7, 11-9, 11-6. He went on to complete a good 'double', winning the under-17 title against I. T. Gunapala of Vidyartha College in the final 11-8, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9. Sajith combining with Chameera Chathuranga took the runners-up spot in the boys under-17 doubles event. The pair were beaten by G. M. Liyanage and Hasitha Samaraweera of Dharmaraja College 11-8, 11-5, 11-2. Madura Dananjaya of Dharmaraja College took the boys under-13 singles title defeating Samuditha Ishan of Royal College 11-9, 12-14, 11-6, 11-8. The girls under-13 singles title went to Ishara Maduwangie of Devananda College. She beat Ruhansi Wijekoon of Maliyadeva College 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 14-12. Tharindu Samaraweera of S. Thomas' College and C. K. Udugama of Devi Balika won the under-17 mixed doubles final over Milinda Laksitha of St. John's Nugegoda and Wasana Sandarekha of St. Joseph's Nugegoda. Quarter-finalists were also found in the men's singles with the seeded players achieving comfortable victories over their opponents. Thilina Piyadasa of University of Sri Jayawardenepura (top seed), Yohan Deshapriya (Royal College), Rohan Sirisena (Three Star SC), B. C. Chathuranga (Devananda College) (top half). K. S. T. Chalintha (Citi Bank), T. Samaraweera (S. Thomas' College Mt. Lavinia), B. N. B. Jayasinghe (Vidyartha College), Indika Prasad (Aban) bottom seed (bottom half) qualified to play in the men's singles quarter-finals today. |
