Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel - the marine wonderland in Southern Lanka

Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel is ideally located butting into the beach and golden sands of Hikkaduwa.

The natural reef has made it a haven for beach lovers to relish sea bathing throughout the year.

The beautiful beach, only a stone's throw from the hotel, forms a natural pool for tourists.Forty eight of the 50 rooms have sea frontage and every room has its own private sit-in balcony where tourists drink-in the beautiful sunset and wonderful beach of Hikkaduwa. Beginning his hotel career as an Accountant in 1992 at St. Andrew's Hotel, Nuwara Eliya, Henry graduated to be a general manager and gained experience by working in a number of star class hotels in Sri Lanka.

One of the main attractions at the hotel is the boat safaris offered to tourists to explore the coral world and reef formation for which Hikkaduwa is world famous.

Hikkaduwa Beach Hotel is owned and managed by International Enterprises Ltd. and Uni Walkers Ltd. The directors are Gilbert Jayasuriya (Chairman) a pioneer in Sri Lanka's hotel industry, the first Sri Lankan to manage hotels in the Maldives, and past president of the Sri Lanka Hotels Association. Other directors are Badra Wimalasekera (Managing Director and Chairman, Uni Walkers), Mrs. Shamali Jayasuriya Soysa (Director) and M. A. Wimalasekera (Director)

From waiter to Executive Resident Manager

Beginning his hotel career right from the lowest rank in the hospitality industry - a waiter, and rising to the post of Executive Resident Manager of a star class hotel, is a unique achievement for Tyrell Anton Morrison. Tyrell who served as the Resident Manager, Galway Forest Lodge, the first three star hotel in Nuwara Eliya, for three years, has now been promoted as Executive Resident Manager, Galway Miridiya Lodge, Anuradhapura.

After ending his studies at St. Anthony's College, Katugastota at the age of 17 Tyrell joined Hotel Ceysands, Bentota as a raw hand, a trainee waiter in 1979 and never looked back.

From the very beginning of his hotel career, Tyrell knew that hardwork, honesty, simplicity and perseverance are the vital ingredients for the success in the travel and tourism industry. These qualities he possessed. From a humble waiter, he climbed the ladder of success in a short period to reach his goal as an Executive Resident Manager.

After working as a waiter at Ceysands, Lady Hill Hotel, Kandy, and Tangerine Beach Hotel, Kalutara, he was promoted as Restaurant Supervisor at Tangerine. In 1988, he joined Mahaweli Reach Hotel, Kandy as a Restaurant and Bar Supervisor, from where he joined Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya as a Senior Restaurant and Bar Supervisor. In 1993, Tyrell left overseas for greener pastures. After two years, he returned to Sri Lanka and joined Browns Beach Hotel, Negombo as a Food and Beverage Executive.

In 1998, he was offered the post of Assistant Manager, Food and Beverage, at Galway Forest Lodge, Nuwara Eliya, and later promoted to Resident Manager.

Tyrell reached the zenith of his hotel career last week when he was promoted Executive Resident Manger, Galway Miridiya Lodge, Anuradhapura, owned and managed by Galway Hotels, Rajagiriya. Still in his late thirties, Tyrell is one of the youngest Executive Resident Managers of a star class hotel in Sri Lanka.
