The ART of Living makes an impact

In a society that has come to place a world of importance on stature, prestige and financial position, it is a refreshing change to experience an interesting and equally simple method of living and breathing.

The Art of Living is a non-profit organization conceptualized by the teachings of Sri Ravi Sankar. The society itself is made up of volunteers stemming from various cultural, religious and ideological backgrounds. These volunteers serve to promote good health and peace of mind by increasing the awareness of love and compassion and eliminating stress from our day-to-day lives.

The Art of Living boasts of centres in virtually every part of the world including our own backyard. These centres also re-establish the philosophy that our ultimate purpose of life is to be of service. Service in this case is done not out of obligation, neither is it for pleasure.

What is The Art of Living

Although this practice hails from India, it does not hold any attachment to Hinduism or any other religion. It is simply a form of meditation that promotes peace, joy and happiness. This simple teaching incorporates the manipulation of breathing to calm the mind while alleviating thoughts that inhibit relaxation. This three-dimensional approach seeks to cure the physical, mental and emotional aspects of one's troubles. It is also a holistic approach to complete health and well-being.

Jai breathing

Jai is Hindi for victory and this form of breathing is essentially the mechanism that enhances harmony in all aspects of one's life. "The magic is the breath, the breath is the health". This is the principle that is relayed to beginners of this programme. Twenty minutes a day is devoted to breathing exercises. This helps pump in oxygen to one's bloodstream and in turn, increases energy levels and enthusiasm, and helps to kick-start the day.

What it can do for you!

The process of breathing is the power that serves to heal. It is not just breathing but an intense method of improving circulation, awareness and reducing psychosomatic illnesses such as manic-depression. In today's society, stress from work, family and relationships is a common occurrence, while depression is also inherent.

People who practise this technique have been seen to quit smoking, excessive drinking and take firm hold of their anger. They also become a lot more compassionate and caring. Potential is maximized through the steady practice of this pragmatic approach.

Its practical and uncomplicated methods improve, if not cure, many health aliments such as asthma, sinus, thyroid and other lymphatic maladies.

It is also being used in the plight against AIDS and cancer as the technique grants sufferers a mode of detaching themselves from their pain.

Food also plays an important role, as a large number of members turn vegetarian after a while, the reason being that besides vegetables being good for you, each member would begin feeling compassion for all living beings.
