40 swimmers for final trial for SAF Games

by Leslie Fernando

Forty leading men and women swimmers are invited to face the final trial to pick swimmers to represent Sri Lanka at the South Asian Federation Games (SAF Games) to be held from March 26 to April 6 next year in Islamabad Pakistan.

The trial will be conducted by the National Amateur Aquatic Sports Union (NAASU) from January 22 to 25 at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool commencing at 3.30 p.m. each day. The NAASU selected the first three from the top twenty in the respective events according to ranking for this trial. There will be 16 events for the men and 12 for women. In addition, the swimmers will also vie in the 4 x 100 metres and 4 x 200 metres free style relay and the medley relay.

NAASU has instructed the swimmers to train under their respective coaches.

Once the final squad is picked they will begin to train under a coach appointed by NAASU. According to a senior official of NAASU it is likely a top foreign coach may come over to coach our swimmers.
