Sunanda Weerasinghe's vegetarian mission... Sujan International (Pvt) Ltd., a pioneer of vegetarian products seeks to manufacture 100 per cent vegetarian food products to cater to the widely growing trend towards natural and health foods. Since 1991, the company headed by vegetarian Sunanda Weerasinghe has been manufacturing 100 per cent vegetarian moss jelly crystals and dessert mixes under the Supersun brand. The products which include Vegetarian Wattalappan, Chocolate Mousse, Strawberry Mousse, Strawberry Trifle, Chocolate Trifle and Cream Topping, are available at supermarkets. She also manufactures a range of nutritional and convenient cereal mixes such as Thosei mix, Idli mix, Dhal Thosei mix, Chappathy mix, Hopper mix, Eggless waffle and pancake mix. According to Weerasinghe, the vegetarian moss jelly sets without refrigeration and does not melt once set. It can be made dissolving the jelly in hot water. The products are marketed by Millers Ltd.Weerasinghe is on the board of the Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce and is also an executive committee member of the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association. |
