Peradeniya University easy winners by Kandy sports correspondent University of Peradeniya made mince meat out of their opponents by scoring twenty eight goals in three matches to lift the women's championship title of the Inter-University hockey tournament organised by the University of Peradeniya and played at the hockey strip of University of Peradeniya. The women undergrads from Peradeniya dominated the tournament to such an extent that they beat University of Colombo 11-nil in the quarter finals and drubbed University of Rajarata by the same margin in the semi-finals. Then in the finals, they beat University of Moratuwa 6-0 after leading 3-0 at the breather. University of Rajarata turned in a surprise to clinch the third place by defeating the better fancied University of Colombo 2-1 in the losers Final. Results: University of Moratuwa beat University of Rajarata 2-0, University of Peradeniya beat University of Colombo 11-0, University of Rajarata beat University of Ruhuna 2-1. Semi-finals University of Peradeniya beat University of Rajarata 11-0, University of Moratuwa beat University of Colombo 2-1. Loser's final University of Rajarata beat University of Colombo 2-1. Final University of Peradeniya beat University of Moratuwa 6-0. |
