Japan's top envoy to meet LTTE chief Japan's reputed international negotiator Yaushi Akashi is due to visit Sri Lanka at the end of this month and will meet LTTE supremo V. Parabhakaran, diplomatic sources said. In what appears to be heightened Japanese support for the peace process, Mr. Akashi, who is Chairman of the Japan Centre for Conflict Prevention, today meets in Bangkok LTTE chief negotiator Dr. Anton Balasingham who has stayed on in the Thai capital after the fourth round of peace talks for this purpose. Mr. Akashi visited Sri Lanka last month and on his return to Tokyo expressed his complete satisfaction in the peace process. He met LTTE representatives but not the Tiger leader. Dr. Balasingham's deliberations with Akashi will mainly focus on the Tokyo aid parley scheduled for end March where an estimated US Dollars 125 million is expected from donor countries. (Selva) |
