Radio issue : Norway's PM reassures President Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik has assured President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga that his country was "impartial" and remained committed to peace in Sri Lanka. The Norwegian Premier was responding to a letter sent to him last month by the President raising questions about the legality of the supply of radio equipment by Norway to the LTTE for a radio station. In his letter of response to the President which was released to the media by the President's Office, the Norwegian Premier said: "With regard to the issue of a licence issued by Your Excellency's Government to the LTTE peace Secretariat to operate a radio transmission facility, and the role of the Norwegian Embassy in this matter, I am pleased to refer to the statement issued by Your Excellency's Government on 26 December, 2002, in which Your Excellency's Government has clarified the matter. |
