'Innocent persons not found guilty' -Government Analyst

by Shanika Sriyananda Liyanage

K. Sivaraja, Government Analyst, referring to our article 'Forensic Blunders' which appeared in last week's Sunday Observer said that no innocent person has been found guilty of rape and murder. He said that the methods used are not based on the faulty system of matching blood samples, but not with modern technology either. " The results obtained were corrected by the experienced officers. We have only two officers in the Serology Section at the moment. They were trained by the well experienced retired senior officers of the Department", he pointed out.

The Serology Section, which deals with the cases of murder, rape and accidents, solved over 219 of the 497 cases referred to the GAD during last year. "The section needs more officers to cover the increasing number of cases received monthly.

No one at the GAD was trained to carry out DNA testing", he claimed.
