Devians' Jubilee on Jan. 14th

by LAKMAL WELABADA

Devi Balika Vidyalaya will commemorate its Golden Jubilee (1953-2003) on Tuesday, January 14, with an `All Night Pirith' ceremony with an alms giving to 50 Buddhist monks on the following day.

The students, teachers and parents along with the Old Girls' Association have organised a series of activities to mark the occasion.

The organisers said that steps have been taken to launch the "Devi Scholarship Fund" to help the poor students to further their studies. A new bus will be officially handed over to the school on the same day.

On January 20, teachers and principals, both past and present, along with old Devi Balikians will be felicitated in recognition of their service and achievements at a ceremony with the participation of Human Resource Development, Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku as chief guest and School Development Minister Suranimala Rajapakse as guest of honour. This will be followed by a pageant cum tableau depicting the history of Devi Balika. The Golden Jubilee souvenir will also be launched on the same day.

Activities connected with the Golden Jubilee ceremony include transmitting of `Devi Swarnasara', a radio broadcasting program through 96.1 FM, and the launching of VHS and CD - a documentary film about Devi Balika on January 21 and 22, a two day exhibition `DEVEX - 2003' on January 23 and 24, `Devi Colours Nite' on January 29, a cultural show `Devi Swarna Ranga', on January 31 and `Devi Yatra', a stage drama on March 31.
