The Quatro girl

They labelled her the local Suzi Quatro and they weren't far wrong. For the versatile singer Anne Nathan is quite dynamic in her style. Leader of the trio Familiar Faces, Anne says she is a practical person with flashes of temper that cools off fast. Her father is her promoter and manager and 'managers require a salary - but I don't pay him!' reveals Anne in good humour.

Name: Anne Yasmin Nathan
Birthday: March 13
Status: Single
Fav colour: Black

Trendy outfits: I go in for casuals. I'm not one for designer clothes. I prefer to wear comfortable clothes especially when I'm performing on stage.

Hair do's: I like the permed hair - the soft perms or the tiny curled hair do's.

Fav music: Country music. I enjoy the songs of Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Olivia Newton John and Shania Twain. That does not mean I don't sing pop. I do. But country music has a special attraction- the rhythm and lyrics.

Fav songs of the '80s/'90s: From the '80s Suzi Quatro's 'If You Can't Give Me Love'. In fact I was labelled the "local Suzi Quatro" From the '90s who can forget Tina Turner and the song 'What's Love Got To Do With It' or 'Simply the Best.' She's dynamic!

Your career launch: I started my singing career with Gaylord Revival singing at the Flame Room and stayed with the band for three years, before I left for Switzerland to join Mike Gunasekera's Serenade. We came back after completing our contracts and Serenade as a Trio - that's Mike, Sampath Nanayakkara and myself - worked the Southern circuit. Sometime later Derrick Peters joined us and we played at the Hilton. Soon after Mike left for Australia and Anton Goonatilleke took over and we continued playing down south and at the hotel lobbies including Trans Asia and Inter-Continental. Subsequently there was a name change - Serenade became Familiar Faces. When did you take over as leader: Last year. Anton Gunatilleke went over to Papua New Guinea and he requested me to take over Familiar Faces. I got a great deal of support from my father and my brother so with Rolika Wickramatilleke on keyboards and Rovin Wolff - guitar we perform weekly at the five star hotel lobbies and also at private functions with our repertoire of pop from the '60s, '70s and '80s. Are you superstitious: No. I don't believe in that. Like for instance some are paranoid about seeing an ekel broom in front of the house, when you are leaving home for work first thing in morning - no that's not for me. Do you still have your childhood toys: A few of them are with me, the rest I have gifted to poor children. What's your pet hate: People who are wicked in thought. People who are wicked to animals. I have two little doggies and they are like my two children. What makes you happy in life: Music, humour, I enjoy many a laugh. I feel happy when I have completed all my work for the day. I love to keep a beautiful and clean home with a landscaped garden. I want it to be good when I leave and when I come back. Where would you like to be most now: In Sri Lanka with my family. I hope I could go to Australia. Europe I enjoyed very much. Mike Gunasekera he was a good band leader. What other profession would you like to be in: I never thought about it. I went into music straight from school and I had a good deal from all the bands I worked with. I never let them down. So music is my only career. What would you do if you ruled the world: I would ensure that everybody ends up as musicians! Music gives happiness. Your fav food and do you cook: Pizzas. Yes I can cook. I'm a rice and curry expert. In Switzerland I cooked for the boys. At first I made a lot of mistakes like too much salt and 'beri bath' but I overcame that fast! What would you have liked to have been in a past life: A bird. I wouldn't need visas to go to any country. I'll just fly away! Worst hit song: 'Who Let the Dogs Out' - there's no meaning to it. If Elvis were still alive what would he be doing: He would have carried on in the same singing style despite all the development in music. He wouldn't have changed. He would still be popular.
