Karu allays fears of fuel shortage

Power and Energy Minister, Karu Jayasuriya, on Friday allayed fears of a fuel shortage, in the event of a US attack on Iraq, and assured that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was maintaining a good buffer stock of fuel. The public should have no cause to panic over a possible crisis.

The Minister further said that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel and reassured that the public will not be subjected to any inconveniences. When asked whether the CPC had also contacted the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) which now runs several oil farms in Trincomalee with arrangements to have islandwide sales outlets, the Minister said that all options were being taken into consideration, including a tie-up with IOC.
