ARFU keen to have Lankan girls at Hong Kong sevens by LAL GUNESEKERA Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) is contemplating whether to send a women's side to participate at the Hong Kong International 7's to be held end March, but will make the final decision only if the standard is good enough after a tournament to be worked off soon. The President of the SLFRU, Commodore Harsha Mayadunne, told the Sunday Observer that the ARFU has already informed us that they would like a women's side from Sri Lanka too, to play in Hong Kong together with China, England, Fiji, Hong Kong, Japan, Kazakhastan, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and USA. If Sri Lanka does participate, the side will comprise 12 players and two officials. He further said that practices for the men's side will start tomorrow (Monday) with the pool that was picked for the Dubai International 7's in November last year (2002). He said: "I hope that the national selectors will 'do their job' and pick the pool for Hong Kong at least today (Sunday) and include Sanjeewa Jayasinghe (Kandy SC) who has recovered from an ankle fracture. |
