Team Caltex - Upulwan back in action - with a record!

Preethi Palliyaguru Memorial Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb was held on Sunday 2nd February in Matara Super Car Event (modified 1665-3600cc) was won by Team Caltex Nishan Weerasuriya (Caltex Subaru Impreza) who is known for his skills in Hill Climbs.

This was an event with immense competition and action as spectators viewed highly skilled drivers such as Aravinda Premadasa in his Havoline Subarui Impreza and Dinesh Deheragoda in his Mitsubishi Evo driving their powerful machines to compete for victory.

Team Caltex secured 2 places with Nishan Weerasuriya (35.95) and Aravinda Premadasa (36.11) being placed winner and the 1st runner-up. To most spectators, the highlight of the event was to see a prominent face of Team Caltex Upulwan Serasinghe back in action after a almost an year's absence from the racing scene due to an injury. As always, jovial, Upulwan, a person of great determination and courage proved that he could conquer all odds if he puts his mind to the task. Racing his Caltex branded Toyota Starlet to the victory line in the diesel cars non-turbo up to 2000 cc Upulwan created a new record at 43.77.

Overall, Team Caltex performed exceptionally well with Dhammika Peries winning the standard over 14bhp in his Havoline Ford Laser creating a new record at 41.67 and also secured 3rd place in the 10-12bhp racing his Honda Civic, while Dilshrad Hamdoon also in his Havoline Ford Laser created another new record (41.25) winning the standard 12-14bhp with Nishan Wasalatantri of Caltex securing 2nd place.

Experienced Zakie Ismail further established his dominance in the 8-10bhp event securing 1st place with a new record of 40.19, while team mate Nalin D. Perera secured 2nd place in his Caltex branded Renault Javid Uahab in his Havoline Honda was placed 3rd in the 6-8bhp category. Dinesh Senanayake and Bri Ponnambalam secured 1st and 2nd places.
