BBC World conference in Sri Lanka by Deepal Warnakulasuriya The BBC World Global Sales Conference was held in Mount Lavinia last month. The BBC management had decided to hold this year's sales conference in Sri Lanka as they believed that the country is safe and conducive for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE). Thirty six top level members of the BBC sales management team from London, Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore and the USA were in Sri Lanka for the three-day conference. The conference was organised by SriLankan Airlines. Sri Lanka being selected as the venue for the annual conference over many other venues including USA was a great achievement, SriLankan Chief Executive Officer Peter Hill said. BBC World Airtime Sales Director Jonathan Howlett said the island has a good MICE market and is a favourable venue for MICE tourism. "We considered several countries and opted for Sri Lanka as it was convenient and safe due to the ongoing peace process", he said. |
