The latest jazz outfit in town, Jazz Projekt is led by pianist/keyboardist Dilukshi Sirimane and is supported by veteran guitarist Revel Crake, bassist Ray Gomes and drummer Refaai Thowfeek. Jazz Projekt's aim is to reach out to as many people as possible irrespective of their age. They specialise in jazz standards (with new arrangements of course) and are also into the more funky grooves ranging from the music of Four Play to jazzy renditions of Marvin Gaye. Dilukshi, Revel and Ray also showcase their ability to sing by vocalizing individually as well as together on particular arrangements such as the Brazilian Bossa-novas. How did this group come about? "Well it was the influence of singer Jerome Speldewinde when he came down last October and we were the backing band. His vast repertoire is awesome and we could not let it fade away. Jazz Projekt is not just another group. It is a group with a difference. We want to entertain the discerning listener, and to be innovative enough to make even others listen," says Dilukshi. So catch their sounds every Friday night at the JAIC Hilton and unwind after a hard week of work. |
