by Umangi de Mel It's felicitation time...Yet another year has dawned and giving it a fantabulous start, the one and only award ceremony for the western music industry in the country, the Golden Clef Awards are back. Reviving the tradition after almost nine years, the Clefs are here to boost young artistes and appreciate senior ones who seem to be rock-solid as always. The brainchild of H.L.D. Mahindapala, ex-editor, Sunday Observer, the event originated in 1991 with its first show held in January 1992 that was sponsored by Jones Overseas Limited. The recurring event has been a powerful inspiration to musicians as it kept them guessing and wanting to do better. The contest is held to give national recognition to talented musicians in the western music industry and honour those who uphold excellence. As against the other years, the revival programme will only have 10 competing categories. The Clefs will continue and as the years progress, the amount of categories will grow to suit the bent of our musicians. |
