'To Sir With Love' Lulu in town

by Farah Macan Markar

Marie McDonald Mclaughin, better known as Lulu, for her role in one of the most famous movies of the sixties, "To Sir, with Love" in which she co-starred with Sidney Poitier, is here in Sri Lanka for a five day visit as a patron of "Hope for children". Having arrived on the February 28, she visited three children's wards in the Maharagama Cancer Hospital and will be involved in the "Street Children Project" on Monday early morning. Later she will visit the "Friend in need society". Speaking to the Sunday Observer, Lulu says she has come, to give attention for "Hope for children".

"There are many people involved in big charity projects. I believe small charity projects are important too. I was attracted to this one for it was about children". Having heard that the organization, needed a profile to help it get publicity for fund raising, through a friend, it was a matter talked about for two year before it finally came to be. British tabloid- 'The Daily Record' will be covering the visit. Lulu will leave the island on the Tuesday, March 4th.
