LTTE offers exchange of prisoners by R. Thurairatnam The LTTE has offered to release the soldier and the police constable detained by them in exchange for the six LTTE cadres taken into custody by the army. The offer was from LTTE's special forces commander Colonel Karuna Amman, at the end of the second round of discussions on violations , human rights and Muslims Affairs held between the Government and the LTTE in Vavunathivu, Batticaloa on Friday. The discussion was held under the patronage of the new chief of the Sri lanka Monitoring Mission Maj. Gen Tryggve Tellefsen with the participation of the Government delegates led by Defence Secretary Austin Fernando and the LTTE delegates led by Colonel Karuna. At the end of the discussion , both sides addressed the media on the outcome of their meeting and said that they were looking forward to meet again to discuss the issues in detail at the next round of peace talks in Japan . The issue of child soldiers were also discussed at the meeting. |
