Swiss -Lanka company to promote investments

Swiss Lanka Management Pvt Ltd is the latest venture setup as a BOI company to promote investments from Switzerland to Sri Lanka. The Directors of the company are President Servit Treuhand AG Peter Horni and Deepal Peiris.

The company promotes investors from Switzerland to invest in Sri Lanka. Any small and Medium sized company with viable projects and requires finances are welcome , said Horni.

Our main interests are encouraging investments in eco tourism, sports tourism and the setting up of international schools but we are open for promoting investments in other areas as well.

Horni a swiss national, is a consultant and chartered accountant by profession and promotes investments to Canada at present. " I am very keen to promote Sri Lanka among the investor community in Switzerland and it is the right time as the ground has been created by the UNF government by initiating the peace process," he added. The maiden venture promoted by Swiss Lanka Management pvt Ltd is an eco tourism project with an investment of Rs 25 million. It is expected to get off the ground in Matugama during the third week of May.

The project at Mathugama will be built as a camp site and will be equipped with 10 bungalows, natural swimming pool, a bar and all the amenities but close to the nature. It will serve fresh organic food but there will be no electricity in the bungalows which will be with a "mana leaf roof" and thatched and mud walls. The bunglows will be comfortable and close to nature.

Horni said that he is keen to go back and tell his people of the ground situation in Sri Lanka and also about the available investment opportunities as the swiss do not know much about the country, the trust and confidence has to be built.

He said the greatest impediment to attracting investors is the exchange rate while the peace and war situation also requests people to think twice before investing. Therefore we have to give a guarantee and I am confident I can attract investors to Sri Lanka. My past relationship with investors are extremely good and they know that I will not let them down and I am confident that I can persuade my people to invest in this beautiful country, he added. The Directors of the company have met the Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando, Deputy Foreign Minister Lal Gamage as well as the Ambassador for Switzerland Reggazoni.

Deepal Peiris is a marine Engineer by profession. He is based in Switzerland for the last 10 years and has his own businesses in Switzerland and Sri Lanka.
