Yamaha holds first distributor Summit in Sri Lanka In recognition of the outstanding performance of Associated Motor (Lanka) Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Associated Motorways Ltd, yamaha Motor Co. Ltd, held their 1st South Asian Summit for Outboard Motor Distributors in Sri Lanka last week at the Hotel Taj Samudra. Distributors from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka participated at the summit meeting which was also attended by senior management from Yamaha. The Yamaha delegation of 15 members was led by Mr. Nick Shibata, Senior General Manager, Mr. Norimichi Harada, Managing Director of Yamaha Marine Company and Mr. H. Sawada, Advisor and Mr. Kent Minami, Senior Manager. The significant popularity of Yamaha Outboard Motors is acknowledged by an increase in market share from 11% in 1997 when Associated Motor (Lanka) was appointed as the distributor to 49% at the end of 2002. Yamaha also introduced two new kerosene operated models of 9.9 h.p. and 15 h.p. which will provide significant economies and performance to fishermen. These models have been developed after extensive tests in Sri Lankan waters, specifically for Sri Lanka. This unique opportunity provided by Yamaha was well appreciated by the distributors who were able to exchange their view points and market information for their mutual benefits. Yamaha presented awards of achievements to each distributor for their significant performance for the development of the outboard motor business activities in their respective countries. Globally, Yamaha is now the world market leaders in outboard motors commanding a market share of 40%. |
