SriLankan Airlines retains exclusive use of 'Air Lanka'

SriLankan Airlines has retained the exclusive use of its previous name 'AirLanka' consequent to two orders issued by the Commercial High Court of the Western Province recently.

A few years ago, a travel agent set up business under the former name (AirLanka) of Sri Lanka's flag carrier. The airline was compelled to seek court action to prevent the use of its former name.

SriLankan Airlines has now obtained permanent injunctions from the Commercial High Court preventing Air Lanka Travels Ltd. and Air Lanka International Ltd (formerly Air Lanka Cargo Ltd) from using the trademark "AirLanka." In accordance with the terms of a settlement reached between the two companies. The Commercial High Court of the Western Province, pronounced judgment that SriLankan Airlines is entitled to the exclusive use of the word "AirLanka."

The judgment further restrained Air Lanka Travels Ltd, and Air Lanka International Ltd from using the name "AirLanka" in its corporate or trade name and/or carrying on any business using the name "AirLanka" or any other name similar to "AirLanka."

Qatar Airways continues normal schedule

Qatar Airways has continued its normal operation scheduled services to Europe, the Gulf, the Indian sub-continent and the Far East since the outbreak of conflict in Iraq. It was reconfirmed.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akabr Al Baker reported that Qatar Airways was the first Gulf airline to recommence services into Kuwait City on Friday, after Kuwait airport was closed for most of the day on Thursday.

"Qatar Airways continues to fly to our destinations across the globe, on time, and with viable loads," said Mr. Al Baker.

"We are committed to maintaining our schedules and meeting the travel needs of our customers. "We are also very committed to their safety as it is our top priority. "Qatar Airways was the first regional airline to fly into Kuwait when the airport reopened last Friday. "We have been operating our normal daily flight to Kuwait ever since, using safe air corridors approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. "As long as the airport remains open we will continue to fly to Kuwait. "Doha International Airport has continued to operate as normal," Al Baker reported. Qatar Airways has launched an aggressive growth plan to ensure it offers greater choice of destination and flight times and the latest inflight products and services.
