The almighty Kahapana

Sel Lipi by Gotabhaya

Swasthi Shree! Thus says his sacred Majesty, the gracious Great King, glorious Chakravarthi, King of the Kings of Maya, Pihiti and Ruhuna, Mahoora of the Vanniala-aeththo and ruler of all lands from Yapapatuna to Sampanthota:

Pandhura - the chakravarthi of Amerikaanun - has begun his battle with the Yonaka Takritiye Saddam. He has pounded Saddam's capital, Baghdadaya, as well as the other cities of the Yonaka Land Between the Rivers, with his dhandumonaras, and his rathas of war have stormed over the desert.

He has said that this is just part of a greater saama sangraamaya in order to bring saama-moksha peace and freedom to the Yonaka Desa.

However, it has come to the notice of the Maha Wasala that the words of that spilled from those golden lips might, in fact reflect the thoughts of a purohita kalliya, a group of advisers to baala Pandhura. The Nava Amerikaanu Shathakaya Kalliya includes Pandhura's yuvaraja Dhik Dangwaela and his war aemathi Dhanambul Rankumbura.

Since it was formed six years ago, it has pressed for a war with the Land Between the Rivers and has sent kotis of Kahapanas to the pretender to the sinhaasanaya of that realm, Ahamedh Chalabi who, it is said, has been convicted in the neighbouring kingdom of Jordhaanaya.

The Kalliya wants to create 'Amerikaanu Saamaya' a peace like the 'Brithaanyaye Saamaya' and the 'Roma Saamaya' before it - across the globe. The Empire on which the Sun Never Sets is to be re-created under a tharu-iri-dhajaya a flag of stars and bars.

The first step towards this is the replacement of Takritiye Saddam by a Shaasthrapathi, loyal to Amerikaawa. It thereby wishes to attain a threefold goal: to capture the fields of the magical Yonaka thel (which the Land Between the Rivers has in abundance), to frighten the chakravarthis of the Yonaka Desa and to make the newly captured realm a base to control the remaining kingdoms in the area.

Apart from these, the Kalliya apparently has another, undeclared aim: the enrichment of certain vessapathis. One samoohaya of vessapathis has been given the contract to work the chief port of the Land between the Rivers, Um Khasraya, which does not even belong to Amerikaawa.

Even as the thel wells burn near the southern city of Bassorawa, the flames are being put out by Dumburu and Mula, vessapathis who have been given the contract to do so, without any other vessapathis being asked for offers.

Six months before this war began, they were given the contract for building and servicing nagaras of koodaaram - cities of tents, enough to accommodate 80,000 warriors of Amerikaawa in Kuwaitaya. They had already been given contracts worth 80 kotis of kahapanas, to supply food, wash clothes and so on for the warriors of Amerikaawa, including those fighting the dreaded Taliban hewaayos in Gandhaara.

Dumburu and Mula belong to a vessapathi samoohaya known as the Haeli-burton. The chief niladhaari of this samoohaya until three years ago was none other than Dhik Dhangwaela. He joined the samoohaya after leaving Sodhana-nuwara, the Capital of Amerikaawa, having served as aemathi to Baala Pandhura's father, the chakravarthi of Amerikkawa under whom contracts were first given to the samoohaya. The Haeli-burton is still paying Dhik Dhangwaela up to 10 lakhs of Kahapanas each year.

Alas, it appears that this war is not being fought for saama-moksha, peace and freedom, but for the almighty Kahapana, in its various forms. Even if a kacchiya of cloth goes for as little as a thuttuwa of money, the dog will remain naked.

Swasthi Shree! This rock edict is made on this day of Ravi of the month of Medin of the Year of the Saka Era 1929.
