Terrific tussle between Sisil and Yasith in Observer-Bata All-Island Contest The fight for the top berth in the Observer-Bata Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2003 All Island is on. At the end of voting on coupon No. 8, Sisil de Silva of St. Benedict's College is in the lead with 3,167 votes just 158 votes more than Yasith Mihiranga of D. S. Senanayake College who is presently second with 3,009 votes. In third place is Trinitian Avanka Peiris with 1,193 votes. This contest and the Outstation Contest are organised by the Sunday Observer and sponsored by Bata Shoe Company of Ceylon Limited. These contests end with Coupon No. 12. Coupon No. 10 will be published from Sunday, March 30 and it will be repeated in the "Daily News" later this week. So, readers of the Sunday Observer and "Daily News" must keep in mind that the two contests end with Coupon No. 12. In the Outstation Contest, Roshan Abeyratne of St. Anne's College, Kurunegala holds on to his lead and has gathered 3,380 votes at the end of counting on coupon No. 8. He had 2,806 votes the previous week. Jayathu Neelaweera of Sri Sumangala, Panadura is second with 2,407 votes and Inshaf Razik of Akurana is third with 675 votes. Readers are reminded that they can send any number of coupons in an envelope provided the coupons are for one cricketer and the envelopes must be marked on the top left-hand corner the competition - Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2003 "All-Island" or Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2003 "Outstation" as the case may be. |
