Unilevers sponsors SLSCA u. 14 and u. 16 tourneys

Astra from Unilever Ceylon has returned with a bang to sponsor the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) Junior (under-14 and under-16) tournaments which is scheduled to start in May with over 300 schools in the fray.

Announcing the partnership between Astra and junior cricket, Ms Hashanthi Samaratunga (Brand Manager, Astra) said that the Unilever were happy to be the main sponsors of the under-14 and under-16 tournaments and work together with the SLSCA and Sri Lanka Cricket Board (BCCSL) to uplift the standard of cricket among the youngsters.

At a media briefing at the BCCSL on Wednesday, it was revealed that the sponsorship package of Rs. 3.5 million will involve all 22 districts in the country, including the Northern Province, and that Astra has been associated with cricket in the past (1980 to 1986) too.

Foods Director Unilever. Mrs. Amali Nanayakkara, too was happy to work together with the SLSCA and BCCSL in sponsoring the under-14 and under-16 school cricket tournaments involving every district in the country, and hoped that the Astra Junior Cricket will develop young cricketers to international standards.
