Gillette team makes World Cup final A Sri Lankan eleven did make it to the World Cup finals, even though it did not take the field against the cricketing giants from Australia. Luck and the right choice of razor ensured the team had an easy ride into Johannesburg courtesy Gillette, the world's most used razor brand whose 'Fly to the Finals' promotion received an unprecedented public response from many parts of the country. Led by V. A. Shantha Kumara of Alawathugoda, the first Lankan to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Cup finals, the Gillette squad comprised messrs Kapila Suranga of Matara, Madinage Ratnasiri of Gampola, Premadasa Heenatigala of Kurunegala, Jayaratna Perera of Moratuwa, Mohamed Bawa and Indika Rohan Jayalth of Colombo, Salinda Roy Jayamatha and Chandima Abeysinghe of Kandy, Chaminda Lakmal Fernando of Marawila and Jananjaya Silva of Kalutara. All what the lucky winners had to do was buy a "Gillette Blue 2" or "Gillette 2" disposable razor and send in a coupon with the plastic cap of the razor to be eligible to participate in weekly draws conducted by Gillette and the company's local representative Walker & Grieg Ltd. The 'Gillette Fly to the Finals' promotion was the only promotion of its kind that offered a high value prize in conjunction with a low priced fast moving consumer product. "We are very encouraged by the enthusiastic response of consumers to this promotion: Gillette's Country Manager in Sri Lanka Rajeev Khandelwal said, "It has helped further reinforce Gillette as the premier razor brand in this country." |
